Uplifting Voices, One Story at a Time
In 2019, while serving as the Diversity Commission Coordinator for the City of Edmonds, I had the honor of helping launch a powerful storytelling initiative called “I Am Edmonds.” This project was rooted in a simple but radical belief: every voice in our community deserves to be heard.
The initiative invited residents, workers, and visitors to share their stories — in multiple languages — as a way to build empathy, cultural understanding, and connection. We made space for English, Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, and Russian speakers to contribute their lived experiences.
As someone deeply committed to justice, reentry, and housing advocacy, this work reaffirmed what I know to be true: storytelling builds bridges — between communities, between systems, and between generations.
This project wasn’t just professional for me — it was personal. It reminded me why public service matters and how equity work begins at the local level.
